Nanopublication — Hegel's tearing-asunder tests 'form precedes matter' — and only the idealist reading breaks

The boundary is the strength of the priority claim: P1 as a craft-level statement (a direction exists before execution) is not contradicted by this source; P1 as an idealist ontology (an order pre-existing and selecting matter from outside) is exactly the position the essay's Hegelian materialism is constructed to deny. Outside this one premise, the essay carries no vocabulary of emitter, receiver, codex, or diffraction — the rest of the ideamorphism apparatus has nothing to grip on here.

What the source says [1]

Žižek reads Rodin's The Walking Man against Trotsky's 1908 remarks on the violence of exhibition, then against Hegel's Preface to the Phenomenology, to argue that the 'tearing asunder' performed by Understanding is not something imposed by mind on an otherwise whole reality — it is constitutive of substance itself, which only becomes 'Subject' through its own internal disparity. He extends this into a claim about art and matter: quantum mechanics shows movement is not imposed on matter from outside but irreducible to it ('materialism without matter'), and the Hotel Moscow anecdote — a building accidentally constructed with two incompatible facade designs after Stalin failed to choose between them on a single drawing — is offered as a case where a material object realizes an inconsistent multiplicity of ideas, the contradiction lodged in the Idea itself rather than resolved by execution.

Where the lens grips

P1's claim that every idea 'has form before it has material' — form as principle of order preceding the making — meets exactly the question this essay stages: is the order that organizes The Walking Man 'an ideal entity which selects its bodily expression from outside' the matter, or is the dismembering part of reality/matter itself? P1 answers by fiat what Žižek treats as the live fault line between idealism and materialism.

Where it breaks

P1 slips IF one reads 'form precedes the making' in the strong idealist sense the essay attacks — an ordering principle existing wholly prior to, and selecting from outside, an otherwise inert material process (this is precisely what Žižek's Hegel-plus-quantum-mechanics argument, and the Hotel Moscow case of a contradiction lodged in the Idea itself, is built to refute). It holds if one reads it more modestly, as a craft claim — some direction (even Shchusev's single ambiguous drawing) exists before the walls go up, however split or unresolved that direction turns out to be. The essay does not decide between these readings of P1; it only shows that the strong version is the one under active philosophical dispute, not the one P1 quietly assumes as settled.

Propositional grid [2]

Read this grid. “Not evaluated” does not mean the source has nothing to say about that proposition. It means the reading did not instruct it. That is not a result, and it counts in no denominator. A silence, by contrast, is a finding: the reading touched the proposition without concluding, or noted its absence itself.

What was instructed. These propositions have been judged and carry a current statement: it is that statement the reading tested, not the founding one.

  • P1 — judged in Note 04 · current statement : 'form' means PRINCIPLE OF ORDER (the relation of parts to the whole), never figure, outline or image — under the figurative reading the statement is false; what precedes execution is a DIRECTION, not a figure

Overall verdict: Bounded — taxonomy of the August 2026 pass, predating the move to relational verdicts. Kept as metadata: the gap between the two forms is data, not residue. This reading’s judgement is in the grid above.
