Status of the inquiry — last updated 21 September 2026. Note 06 (P25, Universal Diffraction) is closed and published, with the verdict Anticipated; it closes the first block of the series. On 15 September 2026, two earlier verdicts were re-ruled under the closed taxonomy (see the table below); the notes themselves are unchanged and carry the reasoning.

Ideamorphism is a practice-as-research inquiry by Arnaud Quercy, conducted since March 2026 under public audit. Its two founding texts — the Manifesto ^[1] and The 31 Propositions of Ideamorphism ^[2] (v1, the version under audit: DOI 10.5281/zenodo.19955300) — are the objects under audit, not the current state of the framework. Seven of the 37 propositions have now been ruled on in six public disputationes, and three terms used throughout the founding texts have been retired. This page states what the inquiry has established and what it has withdrawn; the notes listed below carry the reasoning.

What the inquiry is

The stable object is the inquiry itself, not a settled theory. Its working rule: institute a rule between two domains, execute it fully, observe the gap.

The audit runs as a public disputatio series covering all 37 propositions in 33 ordered ranks — 32 published notes, since Note 05 treated two propositions together — each with a question, the practitioner's testimony written before any research, a sourced thesis, a sourced antithesis, a resolution, a verdict, a falsification condition, and its remaining objections. Six notes are closed and published. The series will be followed by a synthesis essay, and only then by a second version of the propositions.

Verdicts are drawn from a closed set of six terms, fixed in English on 4 August 2026: Vindicated · Anticipated · Displaced · Undervalued · Withdrawn · Open.

Codices

The working rule is applied, not only argued. Each codex below states one rule between two domains, fixes it in a version, and can be checked against what is made under it.

• Colour for pitch. Each of the 88 piano keys receives a colour: hue by the cycle of fifths, value by register. Version 1.0. ^[3]
• Field material. A field recording is folded onto pitches, a rhythm and a sequence of forms. ^{[4] [5] [6]}
• Measurement. A device to measure the gap between what a codex prescribes and what the hand realizes — the loss of Note 03, made measurable. ^[7]

What has been established

These hold across the corpus as of Note 06 (21 September 2026), and bind every proposition, audited or not.

• A mode is a ruled space, individuated by its rules rather than by a sensory channel — and a mode can be instituted. Declared as a decision, not a thesis. (Note 01, July 2026) ^[8]

• Unity is instituted. A rule suffices to bind what no shared space grounds; unity is an effect of the codex, not its ground. (Note 02, July 2026) ^[9]

• Access runs through the rule, not through the organ. What gives access to a work is a declared rule — a codex — not a sensory channel. The codex opens rather than narrows. (Note 03, July 2026) ^[10]

• Loss is the gap between the rule as posed and the rule as executed. It becomes measurable only because the emitter has declared their own rule. (Note 03)

• What precedes execution is a direction, not a figure. No determinate figure waits upstream to be carried into matter; what belongs to the emitter is the act of instituting, in a material entirely inherited. (Note 04, 9 August 2026) ^[11]

• Three strata, never one: acquired technique · stipulated codex · the enacted idea of this particular work. An objection must address one stratum; granting it on one does not carry the others. (Note 04)

• An invariant is either given or instituted, and the two are distinguished by regime of access, not by substance. (Note 05, 10 August 2026) ^[12]

• What arrives is not done. What arrives in the receiver can have causes, depend on an activity, be learned and be changed afterwards, without having been done — by the one who emits or by the one who receives. Diffraction is universal in one sense only: there is no zero case, no reception without an interval from the emission. (Note 06, 21 September 2026) ^[13]

• Sovereignty is bounded by its object. The emitter disposes of the institution and execution of the rule, not of what arrives. Responsibility for the conditions instituted remains — a claim of the founding texts (Proposition 31), not yet audited. (Notes 04 and 06)

What has been withdrawn

These terms and claims appear in the founding texts and are no longer in force. They are the most frequently repeated in secondary accounts of this work.

• "travel" — nothing travels. (Note 01, July 2026) ^[8]
• "transmit" — there is no transmission, therefore neither loss nor fidelity of transmission. (Note 03)
• "the senses are ouvertures" — the senses are not ouvertures; the codex is. (Note 03)
• The Diffraction Equation — withdrawn July 2026, built on false premises. It must not be cited.
• The Seven Propositions — retired July 2026: a verdict reached without an inquiry, obsolete by construction once the disputatio method existed.

Two terms remain in use, under strict restriction.

"Diffraction": an effect in the receiver, never a mechanism of transport. The term is borrowed from Donna Haraway — the pattern that records an interaction, not diffraction as a critical practice (Note 06) — and is distinguished from both its optical and its Derridean senses.

"Form": a principle of order — the relation of the parts to the whole — never a figure or an outline. Under the figurative reading, "form precedes the making" is false; under this one, it holds. (Note 04)

Closed disputationes

Twenty-six notes remain. The synthesis essay and the second version of the propositions are not yet due, and no part of this page anticipates them.
