Nanopublication — Three Ouvertures, One Archive: Multiplication Holds, the Ricochet Finds No Emitter to Return To

The line sits between reception and revelation: a wave carrying only a given invariant can still multiply into N legitimate creations (P17 holds), but without an instituted invariant or a reachable emitter, the ricochet that would close the loop (P18a) has nothing to return to — unless institutional documentation is allowed to stand in for the missing interlocutor.

What the source says [1]

ARTnews reports on 'Post Generation,' a San Francisco exhibition built from the leftover video archive of Veo 1, a barely-functional Google AI model shut down after producing surreal, low-quality clips and superseded by faster successors. Curator Tina Tarighian, unable to justify keeping the defunct model running or its outputs accessible, gave portions of this orphaned archive to three artists working in different media — fiber artist Haley Mortin, creative engineer Karyn Nakamura, and choreographer Zelia ZZ Tan — and asked each to respond. Mortin knitted samplers of the model's garbled pseudo-text, linking it to 18th-century embroidery literacy. Nakamura built a multimedia assemblage pairing Veo 1 clips with historical high-speed-photography footage and printed research papers. Tan choreographed a dance exploring how generated, physical, and computational bodies move and fail to move. The piece frames the exhibition as a meditation on obsolescence and the ethics of discarding technology that can no longer be regenerated or explained.

Where the lens grips

P17 grips cleanly on the receiver side: one shared archive, distributed to three artists, produces three incommensurable creations — knitted text-studies, a technology-genealogy altar, a choreography of bodily failure — each treated by the article as equally legitimate rather than ranked. What differs, exactly as P17 specifies, is the ouverture: Mortin's history as a data annotator, Nakamura's craft-attention to video systems, Tan's choreographic eye all diffract the identical source material into unrelated content while remaining equally entitled responses. P10 also grips almost literally: the defunct archive is explicitly 'leftover scraps' that Tarighian 'gifts' to artists rather than discards — the piece frames it, in its own terms, as material held in suspension awaiting a next hand, not as a closed record.

Where it breaks

The edge appears upstream of P17, at the question of what is actually being multiplied. P3a's given/instituted split predicts exactly the situation here: Veo 1's clips are given invariant only — measurable surface, 'a six-legged horse,' 'staticky smudge' — produced by a training process with no author intending a codex, which is why Mortin notes the model 'learns text as a texture,' not as meaning. There is no instituted invariant to decode and, because of that, no possible ricochet under P18a: the ricochet needs the intentional invariant revealed in dialogue with an emitter, and Veo 1 is decommissioned, unreachable, not an interlocutor — 'no one can generate using Veo1.' So P17's multiplication holds on pure given-invariant material, but P18a cannot complete afterward; there is nothing for the wave to return to. This reading is contestable: if Nakamura's research-paper printouts count as the engineers' codex made available for inspection, a proxy emitter does exist and a ricochet of sorts becomes available through documentation rather than dialogue — in that reading P18a is merely deferred, not foreclosed. The break holds if 'emitter' in P18a is read strictly as an interlocutor capable of answering 'why'; it softens if institutional documentation can stand in for that interlocutor.

Propositional grid [2]

Read this grid. “Not evaluated” does not mean the source has nothing to say about that proposition. It means the reading did not instruct it. That is not a result, and it counts in no denominator. A silence, by contrast, is a finding: the reading touched the proposition without concluding, or noted its absence itself.

What was instructed. These propositions have been judged and carry a current statement: it is that statement the reading tested, not the founding one.

  • P3a — judged in Note 05 · current statement : say GIVEN invariant and INSTITUTED invariant, never 'physical' and 'intentional' — the axis is MODE OF EXISTENCE, read as regime of access: the given is what a sensor measures on the surface WITHOUT the codex; the instituted is the rule that elects relations in that surface and that only the disclosed codex deciphers

Overall verdict: Bounded — taxonomy of the August 2026 pass, predating the move to relational verdicts. Kept as metadata: the gap between the two forms is data, not residue. This reading’s judgement is in the grid above.
