Nanopublication — Two different kinds of 'I can't fully say why' — the codex's internal opacity is not the same as the source's opacity about causes

The line is the difference between a rule not yet legible (what P14a/P19a track) and sources that can never be fully enumerated (what the article tracks). The framework has vocabulary for the first and is silent on the second — its codex apparatus was built to describe an artist's own evolving logic, not the causal mesh of libraries, editors, machines, and language habits an author is embedded in. The essay's 'indémontrable' names exactly the territory the codex model does not reach.

What the source says [1]

The essay defends AI-assisted literary creation (via the Thélyson Orélien controversy) by historicizing the romantic figure of the solitary author-genius, showing that artists have long worked through collective techniques, borrowed forms, workshop collaboration, and partially impersonal methods. It proposes a gradual continuum between personal and collective/algorithmic authorship rather than a binary of authentic vs. fake, distinguishes three postures of 'generative writers' (instigator, editor, guide), and argues that no author — AI-assisted or not — can fully enumerate the conscious and unconscious sources shaping a work ('le domaine de l'indémontrable'). It ends by defending a right to creative secrecy against demands for total transparency, while calling for paratext proportionate to the work's aesthetic use of the technology.

Where the lens grips

P14a (the proto-codex, where the invariant is 'partially inaccessible, even to the artist', the ricochet asymmetric) and P19a (explicability as condition — opaque invariant, intentional layer mute, 'ideamorphism... partial') both find real surface purchase on the article's central move: the defense of authorial opacity (classicism's 'cacher l'art par l'art', the refusal of mandatory transparency, Gefen's 'domaine de l'indémontrable') looks, on the page, exactly like the framework's description of a real-but-partial emission whose instituted layer stays mute unless disclosed.

Where it breaks

The grip slips at the kind of 'not knowing why' each is describing. P14a's opacity is internal to the rule — a logic of relations not yet converged, destined (per P14b) to crystallize or at least stabilize with iteration. P19a's opacity is about disclosure — the artist knows the rule but withholds or cannot articulate it on demand. The article's opacity is neither: 'le domaine de l'indémontrable' is a claim about causal/historical untraceability of inputs (library, internet, education, an AI model's training corpus, unconscious habits of language) — a question of what produced the work, not of whether its internal relational logic has converged or whether the artist consents to state it. A defender could read this as simply another case of an un-crystallized proto-codex (P14b already allows the codex stays 'never definitively closed'); but that reading has to stretch 'codex' to cover external causal attribution, which P14a/P19a never claimed to cover — they describe a rule not yet legible, not an input list that cannot be totalized. X slips if one reads the source's 'indémontrable' as a claim about causal origins; it holds, weakly, if one reads it as just another register of codex instability.

Propositional grid [2]

Read this grid. “Not evaluated” does not mean the source has nothing to say about that proposition. It means the reading did not instruct it. That is not a result, and it counts in no denominator. A silence, by contrast, is a finding: the reading touched the proposition without concluding, or noted its absence itself.

Remarkable silences

1 called for by what the reading found, and absent from the source.

  • P3a — Double Structure of the Invariant

the reading establishes a sharp distinction between P14a's opacity (internal to the rule, not yet converged) and P19a's opacity (known but withheld on disclosure) — exactly the given-invariant/instituted-invariant, mode-of-existence/regime-of-access axis that P3a names — but P3a itself is never invoked to ground or license that distinction, leaving the axis doing structural work under borrowed terms.

Overall verdict: Bounded — taxonomy of the August 2026 pass, predating the move to relational verdicts. Kept as metadata: the gap between the two forms is data, not residue. This reading’s judgement is in the grid above.
