Nanopublication — Persistence that 'awaits the next ouverture' — Proust's crystal confirms it, the dump forecloses it
The boundary is whether 'persistence' in P10 means any material survival, or only the survival of something that was an emission to begin with. Proust's crystal sits cleanly inside P10 either way; the dump sits outside it only under the narrow reading — and the essay gives no criterion for telling, at the moment of manufacture, which artifacts carry the latent 'awaiting' and which are born already closed.
What the source says [1]
The essay reads Proust's 'fragrant crystal of time' and Han's claim that narration 'lets time emit a scent' alongside Deleuze's crystal-image, then sets both against artificial flowers and Marder's philosophy of the dump. Biological scent and Proustian involuntary memory hold duration together and can be reawakened; plastic flowers and landfill matter persist materially for millennia but are scentless, 'the undead,' and — per Marder — the dump itself is 'aporetic,' without logos, a heap from which 'nothing can come out... not even compost.' The essay's wager is that infinite physical duration without the possibility of release (scent, narrative, logos) is not beauty but a different, sterile temporal regime.
Where the lens grips
P10's claim that 'the work is not a record of creation, it is creation in suspension, awaiting the next ouverture' names almost exactly what Proust's crystal and Deleuze's crystal-image do in the essay: scent, or the actual image with its virtual double, persists as latent material that only yields its content when a later encounter (involuntary memory, the viewer's recollection) reactivates it. P24's gradient — presence, embodiment, irreproducibility raise diffraction probability; mediation and scale lower it — also grips: the essay explicitly contrasts Proust's singular, embodied foxgloves and violets against the 'billion-stem bouquet' of mass-produced, petroleum-based artificial flowers, predicting their scentlessness (no diffraction) from their scale and synthetic mediation, which is the shape P24 predicts.
Where it breaks
The essay's treatment of the dump (via Marder) pushes past where P10 can follow without qualification. A dump's matter outlives everything ('newspapers still legible after 40 years') yet is explicitly 'aporetic: there are no passages in it, no way through it, no breathable pores, no becoming, no transitioning... nothing can come out of it, not even compost.' That is not a diminished probability of reactivation (which P24's gradient would cover) but a stated closure of any future ouverture whatsoever — persistence paired with the flat denial of the thing P10 says persistence buys. This slips IF P10's 'the work' is read broadly, to cover any surviving material artifact — then the dump is a direct counter-case, matter that survives but awaits nothing. It holds IF 'the work' is read narrowly, as only artifacts that originated as an idea-bearing emission — then artificial flowers and dump matter were never such works to begin with, and P10 simply does not reach them, rather than being refuted by them. The essay does not decide this for the framework; it only produces the case that forces the choice.
Propositional grid [2]
Read this grid. “Not evaluated” does not mean the source has nothing to say about that proposition. It means the reading did not instruct it. That is not a result, and it counts in no denominator. A silence, by contrast, is a finding: the reading touched the proposition without concluding, or noted its absence itself.
